GSE promotes entrepreneurship and exposure to innovative thinking and the skills necessary to start a company, impact the community, and become a business leader.  GSE is a college and career ready program providing high school students hands-on opportunities to turn their ideas into business prospects.  Student entrepreneurs spend time on design thinking and agile product development with an emphasis on profitability and environmental conservation.

 

Activities at GSE include:

 

·         learning and applying concepts to business ideas

·         visiting start-up businesses in the community

·         seeing entrepreneurial processes in action

·         hands-on, interactive sessions with entrepreneurial leaders

·         creative sessions with professional designers and engineers

·         team building exercises and recreational games

·         learning about: company-start-up and growth, product development and design, business models, marketing and sales, production, investment capital, and long-range strategy. 

 

Accommodations:

GSE entrepreneurs live on a college campus in dormitories with separate quarters for males and females.  

 

 

 

Eligibility Requirements  

Be in the 9th, 10th or 11th grade in a Kentucky high school and intend to return to a Kentucky high school for the next school term.

 

Be a current resident of Kentucky.

 

Application Types and Requirements

Individual Applicant

To apply as an individual you must either: 1) have an innovative business idea for a product or service or 2) have skills or talents and an interest in entrepreneurship that will make you a valuable addition to a business team. 

Team Applicants

A Team must apply with no more than five members.  A team must have an innovative business idea for a product or service. Teams will be accepted as a group.  If a team is selected and a member is unable to attend, the entire team will not be able to attend GSE unless an exception is granted prior to May 1, 2014

 

Application Suggestions:

Prepare the following information before beginning the online application:

1. list of your extracurricular activities, hobbies, awards, personal accomplishments

2. list of relevant classes you have taken in high school

3. draft answers to the short answer essay questions
