Gifted and Talented

Dunbar Students

If your student is identified as gifted and talented in one or more of the following categories:

  • General Intellectual

  • Specific Academic

  • Leadership

  • Creativity

  • Visual and Performing Arts

Gifted/Talented (GT) students are provided opportunities for enrichment through acceleration within the curriculum. Paul Laurence Dunbar High School offers 80 Honors and 27 Advanced Placement classes in all gifted categories. These courses provide GT students with a challenging and rigorous curriculum in their identified area(s) of giftedness.

A Gifted Student Service Plan (GSSP) has been developed for each GT student. Career Cruising enables parents/guardians access to their child’s GSSP by providing Individual Learning Plan (ILP) accounts.

To view a GSSP through an ILP account, you will need to establish a parent/guardian account.  Please

e-mail Derrick Thomas, at derrick.thomas@fayette.kyschools.us to obtain an ILP access code.  This code is required for ILP account username and password set-up.

Steps for Viewing Student GSSP

  • Go to career cruising link:  www.careercrusing.com/ilp

  • Go to the ILP homepage and log-in to your account

  • Next to your name, click the drop down button and highlight “My Education”

  • Click “Learning Services”

  • Click the “View Details” button next to GSSP to view the GSSP.

Paul Laurence Dunbar High School teachers are aware of GT student status and have access to GSSP’s for implementation.  It is important for GT students to be provided with stimulating and thought-provoking learning opportunities. Each school year, teachers and counselors work in collaboration to develop a challenging schedule of classes for each gifted child.

Please contact your child’s school counselor if you have questions or comments about your student’s GSSP.  Counselor assignments can be found on the Guidance link of the PLD website.
